A great resource

Today I finally remembered the link that I wanted to post here on my blog.

http://www.unesco.org/new/en/education/

Unesco.org is a great site from the United Nations. It covers and discusses topics such as: education, natural sciences, humanities and communication information. This website is a great resource because it provides a broader scope of communication and education throughout the world.

Just thought I would share that!

I'm baaack...with something cringe-worthy.

This is from one of "my" TV shows, The Office. It's intended to be funny....but we really know that this not acceptable for the office, classroom, etc. If anything, this video shows how being unaware can be very insensitive and hurtful to others around us. It's time to realize that we live in a diverse country with differing views and opinions. It's also time to realize that we need to be a bit more open and kind to people that are different from us!

Love my RSS feed

If you have not noticed, I recently added an RSS feed to my blog. I am so proud of myself! I feel so accomplished; now that I have been able to incorporate other web tools into my blog.

My RSS feed is for the Special Education Law blog. Although this is a blog covering cultural diversity, we need to acknowledge DIVERSE learners! As educators we need to consider our diverse learners and respect their needs and differences in the classroom.

That's all I have to add for right now....but stay posted as I may come back to post something soon!

Unity in diversity

I was browsing youtube.com this afternoon for a video and came across this one:

As far as education goes, religion should be omitted from the curriculum. BUT, I do feel that it is important for us, as educators, to encourage kindness, respect and tolerance when it comes to other religions and beliefs. Students should be supported and respected for their family traditions and beliefs, including religion.

My first Photopeach slideshow

Here it is! My first Photopeach slideshow featuring a few pictures. Although short, I hope the slideshow sends a short, sweet message about cultural diversity.

Something to think about...

"One of the most serious and explosive issues in the United States today is how to meet the educational needs of culturally and linguistically diverse students. If current trends in educational achievement continue, millions of students (primarily poor African-American, Asian, Native American, and Hispanic) will not obtain the education necessary for full participation in the economic and civic life of the country. Furthermore, the inequality that results from differences in educational achievement of children is likely to make the social stability of the United States increasingly doubtful."
-Barbara T. Bowman, Vice Pres. Urban Education Program, Chicago, IL
NCREL.org

Although this statement is not very bright or positive, the message is clear. We all need to be more culturally aware as educators. All students are diverse learners, and we have to remember that we need to provide the appropriate education for these students to become successful.
